A seasoned publishing professional, Mark Hawthorne brings more than 25 years of media and communications experience to Civic Financial.
Prior to founding Civic Financial, Mark has held some of the most senior executive, management and editing roles at Fairfax Media. He was Victorian Publisher of Fairfax Media, the company’s most senior Victorian media executive and a member of the executive leadership team running The Age, the Australian Financial Review and The Sydney Morning Herald mastheads across print and digital.
Mark is a former Business Editor of both The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald, and in 2012 was appointed National Business Editor of all of Fairfax Media’s metro mastheads. It was under his editorship that The Age and SMH published the news stories that would ultimately lead to the Hayne Financial Services Royal Commission.
Prior to joining The Age in 2004, Mark spent seven years in the United Kingdom, working for some of the world’s most respected financial and magazine publishing companies.
Mark holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history, literature and economics from Monash University in Melbourne.
